On 25th April, 1915 the 1st East Surrey battalion of 14 Brigade, 5th Division moved into moved into the front line just to the south of Ypres in Belgium where they remained until relieved on 30th April. Owen Apps was killed on 29th April when there was intermittent shelling of the battalion’s positions by field guns and trench mortars. |
